The main character is Jim a lovely engaging guy changing his life by moving back to his childhood home. The pace is gentle and loops in relationships, chess and smart home technology, Jim starts solving mysteries but there is a bigger and more dangerous mystery lurking. Highly recommend can't wait for the next book.

An Engaging and Intelligent Read

I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy but intelligent read- a good book to dip in and out of when I had a few minutes to spare. I could relate to the main characters and the gentle pace made a refreshing change from the more intense, overly graphic books I have come across lately. The way Jim is seduced by technology and gadgets was fun, as we all know someone like that... I am already reading the second book!

Another great read!

Having read the first book in the series, I wasted no time in buying the second instalment. I can honestly say that I enjoyed this one more! A few of the old familiar characters pop up, and the family and relationship dynamics felt realistic. However, I really enjoyed Jim Swimmer’s interactions with the new characters, some of whom I would describe as eccentric, to say the least. The blend of subtle humour and drama worked well. Without giving too much away, the former TV star and local celebrity we meet at the end of the first book returns to take a more pivotal role. The few remaining members of an amateur dramatic group also feature, in a subplot which results in Jim once again being in the middle of the action. A few more newbies pop up, including an American ‘friend of a friend’ and an unscrupulous journalist …Now waiting for Book three!

Irish Times - Book Three in the Jim Swimmer Series

Jim Swimmer travels alone to the Republic of Ireland, where he has agreed to house-sit a property under renovation in a remote countryside location. However, the space and tranquillity he anticipated doesn’t quite materialize, and when he does manage to get some time alone it doesn’t have the impact on his writing that he expected. The isolated house in which he stays is old and creaky, the internet is patchy, and mystery and murder lurk amid the desolate Spring landscape. Jim’s mind plays tricks on him; he starts to question his sanity and the shocking truth about a friend is revealed.

Darker but Just as Entertaining as the Previous Books
21 May 2018 - Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this book a little bit darker than the previous ones, but I enjoyed it just as much. Seeing the so-called “murder magnet” Jim Swimmer outside of Brockford- in Ireland and also briefly in Spain- was an interesting departure and the complexity of the plot kept me interested. You are never sure if anyone is exactly as they first appear, and even the titular character is showing signs of stress. I thought there was more of an emphasis on the downside of modern technology, although this doesn’t seem to deter Jim very much! I must admit that I liked seeing the familiar characters, even if just as a cameo, as some of them are like old friends. I don’t want to give too much away, but there are several unresolved issues so I am looking forward to seeing how things pan out for “Jim and Co” in the next book.
